| Olin Armstrong - Olin moved to Breckenridge to coach for Team Breckenridge in 1991 from the University of Wyoming. Olin has coached with the USST – Men’s Europa Cup team and has sat on numerous committees which govern ski racing in this division, regionally and nationally since 1994. Olin’s kids both race for Team Breckenridge Sports Club and he believes he has the best job in the world – Well most days. I wouldn’t trade this job for anything. Katie Beardsley - Riley Campbell - Riley competed on the RMD tour for the past 10 years and has trained with Team Summit and Telluride. He has extensive knowledge of the tour with travels all over the country and to Switzerland, Canada, and Chile. Fresh from the competition scene, Riley has a keen insight on the athlete perspective. He's up to date with the latest training techniques and tactics. A current student at CU, Riley is pysched to be back on snow and leading the new wave of mogul talent. Riley is an innate communicator and his passion and energy for the sport made him RMD's Sportsman of the year and earned him a top 3 at Jr Nationals '07 and many other podiums along the way. Jay Debaggis - Teresa DeSilva - John Dowling - John has coached moguls in Summit county for 20 years starting with Team Breckenridge in 1989, then coaching for the Canadian World Cup team in '99 and '00, then with Team Summit from '01 to '09. Over that time, 20 of his athletes have gone on to the US and other World Cup Mogul Teams: Anne Dowling, Rick Emerson, Chris Dropps, Craig Spurdle, Cindy Burkart, Bark Robinson, Evan Dybvig ('98 & '02 Olympics), Heather Ning, Lindley Hord, Alex Wilson ('98 Olympics), Tami Bradley ('02 Olympics), Luke Westerlund, Mike Friedberg, Evan Rapps, Jeremy Bloom ('02 & '06 Olympics), David Babic, Heather McPhie, Toby Dawson (Bronze Medal '06 Olympics), Ellen Shields, Mikaela Matthews. John has designed a comprehensive training program featuring innovative training concepts and perspectives to help athletes achieve their highest potential. John was the first to devise a year round training calendar complete with Spring camp in Arapahoe, Summer in Chile, and Fall in Zermatt, Switzerland. From working with former US Team trainer Chris Hughes to collaborating with US Team and Canadian Team technical coaches and sport psychologist Eleanor Lazer, he has gained a broad knowledge of sport theory and science and how it applies in specific applications. Laura Girten - Laura Landre – Girten has been coaching for Quantum for the past 5 years in the Devo program. She coached for Team Summit (formerly known then as the Summit County Race Team) from 1984 – 1986 after graduating from the University of Colorado. There she received her bachelors’ degree in Child Psychology and minored in Early childhood. Laura was a downhill ski racer from New York state and raced for the Eastern Ski team for a few years before gaining a spot on the U.S. Development team and then eventually the U.S.. ‘C’ Team focusing on the discipline of Downhill. Laura continued to race in college. Laura enjoys the outdoors with her husband, Art and two children, Alec(14) and Willie(11). Both boys are currently ski racing for Quantum. They all enjoy skiing, biking, hiking, soccer and all activities outdoors. Chris Hawks - Chris has lived in Breckenridge for over 16 years competing and coaching. He is a X games gold medal triple big air in 1999. 3 times Xx games participant. Pioneer of the current Freeride movement. Current member of the Breckenridge Freeride team. After retiring from competition he has judged almost every high level freeride contest including X games and Dew tour. John Leffler - Ian Meader Jon Nelson - I skied for the first time when I was 12. Loved it immediately. Started racing at 13, first podium at 14, spiral fracture at 16. Made it to the lower “A” category, eventually. Never got to Junior Nationals or Can-Am. Tried to bump ski for a year at 19… made $50 cash money! I ruptured my ACL and quit skiing for 22 years. Went to college, married Susan Lautenbach, had three children, started three award winning, semi-successful businesses, and otherwise passed the time until my business partner took me skiing. I was 41 and, surprisingly, started racing – again. Went to Masters Nationals when I’d been back for 3 years and did well. Later, I won division overall for my age category in all events except DH. I started assisting with coaching duties in ’06. I now coach weekends for J5/J4’s Chuck Roth - Chuck grew up in Sunapee, NH. He started racing for the Mt Sunapee ski club when he was 9. He also competed in x-country skiing and ski jumping in high school. Chuck was on the University of New Hampshire ski team where he earned a bachelor’s degree in Athletic Training. Chuck has been working with the age class program for eleven years. Chuck hates talking about himself. Monte Twarks Jeff Westcott - Jeff has been involved in ski racing since 1976 when he watched Franz Klammer’s gold medal run in the Innsbruck Olympics. It’s been a passion ever since! Jeff moved to Breckenridge by pure chance in 1984 and has never really left. After 9 years in the Breck Ski School Jeff reconnected with Alpine Ski Racing and directed a program with 100 racers at Nashoba Valley Ski Area in Massachusetts. After a few years of irresponsibility and a ton of bike riding and racing, Jeff started Maverick Sports Promotions. It keeps him busy producing events such as the Summit Mountain Challenge Mountain Bike Series, The Firecracker 50, and the Breck Crest Mountain Marathon. “I couldn’t imagine living anywhere other than Breckenridge!” Marc Winz - Mark Winz has been coaching in the QSC Devo program for 3 years. Growing up, Mark raced for the Telluride Ski Team & the Western State College Ski Team. He taught skiing at Winter Park to put himself through the University of Colorado. After college Mark renewed his passion for ski racing through Masters and TeamSki racing. Mark is a Level 100 Certified Alpine Coach. Mark is an avid cyclist and enjoys golf and sailing Michelle Zimmerman - Michelle Zimmerman began coaching with Quantum Sports Club Devo program in the 2008-2009 ski season. Michelle grew up a recreational skier always trying to keep up with her older ski-racing brother and his friends and began teaching for PSIA 15 years ago. While mostly focused on competitive gymnastics throughout her youth and into college, skiing has been a defining part of Michelle's life. Michelle has an environmental science degree from the University of Denver and has been the director of conservation non-profits in Tucson and Denver. She now works for Innovative Energy in Breckenridge as the Operations Manager for renewable energy services. |
